The composition "Spring Overture" is inspired by the tragic events of the Korean War, which began on June 25, 1950. Three years of conflict ensued, only to be replaced by decades of tension and division as North and South waged an ongoing idealogical war. This piece attempts to capture the spirit of the ceasefire, represented by a warm spring breeze which holds the promise of new growth. Although not from this generation, I could imagine the tensions swirling throughout the countryside, based on the writings and pictures from the historical accounts of this time. Two large parts comprise this piece; at the beginning, two different themes alternate as a collage which then proceed into one distinct texture.
