This piece, boiling/blooming, is a musical reflection on the story of perseverance and blossoming through community, on being rescued from drowning while adrift. It consists of 5 transformations: boiling -> prowling -> thawing -> warming/alive -> blooming. Over the course of the piece, a series of musical scenes come in and out of focus, each with particular characters, which are in turn textural, rhythmic, and melodic. Some scenes are pained, some are static, some are discursive, some are lively, some return while others do not, and perhaps new music arrives toward the end, shedding light on all that came before.
